Hi all, my name is Mark. I dont have any cancer but my close friend and neighbour has a brain tumour and is about to start radiation therapy. She doesnt have any family that could support her so she wants me to support her through this time. I dont really know where to start. I suffer with pain every day, after a car accident. I take loads of medication to get me through the day but still want to be there for her. I am worried about how my own physical limitations will get in the way of helping her. I don't want to sound selfish, but i want the very best support for her. I worry that she doesnt really have a support network and what will happen if I cant be there to take her and from the hospital or help her eat meals to stay healthy. My mind what to to so much for her but i am scared that my body is not up to it. And if not me then who will support her. She has a heart of gold and has always been there for me. I want to be there for her.
Hi Mark and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your friend has been diagnosed with a brain tumour but that's great that you want to help as much as you can.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group, which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions and to see how others have helped friends and relatives dealing with cancer.
To join, just click on the link I've created and then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversation by clicking on 'reply'.
This link will take you to a blog which explains how to get the best out of the online community but if you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
