Hi
I've just been diagnosed with DCIS, very small area - 7mm and doctor (aside from telling me when I sat down for biopsy results, "as cancers go...") implied minimal significance, easily treated. Told me no increased risk of bc for my daughter and generally I felt any response I had was an over reaction.
When I read up on it later from the leaflet the lovely bc nurse gave me, I assumed it would be low grade as he'd been so dismissive of it and it's significance. But then got my letter post appointment and it said intermediate to high grade - which when I researched further does have increased risks for future for me and for my daughter.
I'm left feeling like I don't know how I should respond- is it tiny and I'm lucky not invasive and basically no big deal? Compared to others' much more serious diagnosis, I just don't know how to feel - but am aware I feel a bit scared and sad
Hi and welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your diagnoses. Interesting, at least you were told you had cancer….. it took over 2 years for me to find out I had a rare incurable blood cancer
A cancer diagnosis can be such a stressful and challenging time but when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are on the exact same cancer and treatment journey.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) but I see you have joined and posted in our Breast cancer. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
All the very best.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
