Hi

My wife is going through the process of getting a specific cancer diagnosis - the medics know there’s several metastatic tumours, but haven’t pinned down a primary site. Today we’ve just been referred to a third different speciality (HPB) - it feels a bit like being passed from pilar to post - and the waiting before starting treatment is so hard - it’s all time that’s lost.

Some of their suspected cancer types seem to be very frightening in their accompanying prognoses (such as bile duct cancer).  Really scary afternoon - thank goodness for our Clinical Nurse Specialist, who listened to our troubles and worries.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your wife has suspected cancer and I know how difficult waiting for tests and then the results of tests can be. I can understand why you feel that time is being lost while she is investigated but it's important that the consultants know exactly what type of cancer they are dealing with so that your wife gets the correct, tailored treatment plan.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the carers only group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have a loved one living with cancer or, like your wife, at the diagnosis stage.

To join just click on the link I've created and then start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'

Once you know what type of cancer your wife is dealing with you could join a cancer specific group which would enable you to chat to others about treatment, etc. To do that take a look through this list to join the relevant one.

This link will take you to a blog which explains how to get the best out of the online community but if you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
