I'd like to get as much information as I can for holistic therapies my husband can take /use alongside his chemo treatment for pancreatic and lung cancer.

  • Hi again , I was on significant amounts of chemo over my treatments for my blood cancer and I was clearly told by my Consultant that all Holistic/Alternative Therapies had to be approved by them....... I did not have any therapies but it's important to get this checked out by his team as some holistic/alternative therapies can actually work against the effectiveness of some chemo treatments.

As always you can talk with our Nurse team in our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the pancreatic cancer group which would be a great place to post your question about holistic therapies your husband can use alongside his chemo treatment.

I'm currently having chemo for a different type of cancer so I must stress how important it is that your husband speaks to his oncologist about anything that he decides to take in addition to the chemo as some things, even natural remedies, react with chemo making it either dangerous to take or it negating the effect of the chemo.

Macmillan have a section on cancer and complementary therapies which you might find useful to have a look through. Clicking on the link I've created will take you there.

It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

This link will take you to a blog which explains how to get the best out of the online community but if you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
