Hi all im new to this,  and like you  i did not imagine i would need to post here. Ive been reading some posts and found them helpful/scary and inspring.  So after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis (invasive lobular er&pr positive ) last week was given a treatment plan this week following an mri scan with contrast. I have been given an option between lumpectomy and mastectomy. Which i am grateful for as i know alot of people don't have the choice.  On reading up it would appear the lumpectomy with radiotherapy is as affective as a mastectomy but my thoughts are airing towards a mastecomy as i want to esnure all effective tissue removed and less chance of recurrence, however thinking of lumpectomy with radiotherapy as less surgery/recovery time...any advice comments would be helpful xx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Having been diagnosed with breast cancer myself this April I do understand what a difficult time this must be for you.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a virtual (((hug)))

  • Thank you latchbrook. I hipe you are doing ok x

  • Yes, I'm doing well thanks

I had a lumpectomy back at the end of April and then had 3 cycles of EC chemo starting at the beginning of July and my first lot of paclitaxel last week. Just another 11 of those to go and then radiotherapy.

Mine was only a very small lump with an area of DCIS so a lumpectomy was recommended. They were able to get all the cancer out with the surgery, so the chemo and radiotherapy is adjuvant treatment to, hopefully, stop it coming back.

  • Thats great news :-) hope your doing ok with the treatment x

  • I know everyone's different, but I seem to have tolerated the chemo very well, ie no nausea or really horrible side effects. Will you be having chemo?
