Hello,

I was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer 4 years ago, I have been through 3 lots of chemo, 1 immunotherapy and 4 lots of radiotherapy and now have been on chemo in tablet form since December 2021 which seems to be working at present. I have the cancer in my lungs, jaw, pelvis on both sides and most worryingly for me at the moment close to my spine. I can cope with the cancer mostly but it’s the stress of the regular ct scans and waiting for results that is really starting to get me down. I just had my results yesterday and thankfully all is stable but for how long? It’s been four years now and it seems the longer it gets the more frightened I get. I don’t have many close friends that I can talk to, years of working for myself and travelling all over has meant that I haven’t really put down roots until I was diagnosed, I am a bit of a loner I must admit, it’s taken me this long to join on here. I know I should be happy with my results but all I want to do is cry, can anyone please help me make sense of this?

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your post treatment challenges….. but great that you remain stable.

I am now in my 23rd year with my incurable blood cancer but heard the word remission back in Sep 2016…. getting the Blush  ….. as up until then the longest remission I had was about 9 months before going back on the treatment rollercoaster.

I see that you have joined a number of our support groups (discussion rooms) these are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

You may want to look at our Life after cancer group as this a good place to unpack with others navigating this challenging time if the journey.

If you'd like to connect in with this group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

    ((hugs))
