After a diagnosis of MSCC which originated from my prostate (undiagnosed and not identified ), I'm 48 and have been discharged from 3 weeks in hospital after an A&E admission I am trying to work out what I do next. The prognosis is not great and my Oncologist says could be as little as 3 months. I'm scared and frightened and struggling with my independence has been curtailed. My partner is struggling to understand the situation and I don't think she has processed what is going on. Would welcome any advice or guidance from anyone who can help me feel less scared. I didn't think it would end like this.
Hi again Patrick99. It can be scary and frightening to process a cancer diagnosis like this.
M journey is very different so my ability to help is limited but as you know the Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) and I see that you have joined our Spinal cord tumours, Bone, secondary cancer and Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only groups.
These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link(s) I have created above then once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
All the very best.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
