Hello,

I hope its ok for relatives to post here.

My mum just got diagnosed with a malignant bowel polyp 4 weeks ago.  She opted for a FIIT test, so a bit of a shock to get the return diagnosis.  She had her CT scan but has the MRI on Monday and they also want to test the liver (inconclusive CT) which has me really anxious.  I'm accompanying her to all appointments but this waiting and unknown next step is a worry.  The doctor says it was detected early, but then you start having to get all these tests...you start Googling...  I guess in a way its to determine the best course of treatment but its a bit hard to get your head around, especially when you are not mentally prepared for that diagnosis.

I'm just here to let out my worries. I don't have a partner and I'm the only child; so I really need to be supportive to my parents; in times of worry I turn to my mum for reassurance; now I need to be there for her.

To whomever may read this, I hope you are doing ok.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your mum has just been diagnosed with a malignant bowel polyp and I know what a difficult time this will be for you both.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group, where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have this diagnosis, and also either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both of these last two groups are safe and supportive places to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one living with cancer.

To join the groups just click on the links I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

    I noticed you said

you start Googling...  I guess in a way its to determine the best course of treatment

but I would be wary of doing this as your mum's treatment will be tailored to her and Google will not know the results of your mum's tests and what the best plan for her would be.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
