Hi, I'm new here. I'm feeling a bit alone and a bit guilty. My partner is more likely than not going to have both his testicles in the not-too-distant future. He's only 42, and whilst he is lucky that the cells are precancerous, the prospect of having this operation is upsetting. I can't find any information on double orchiectomy as it is apparently quite rare. I'm trying to be strong for him and to focus on the positives, but on my own, I have all the worries, from how will it affect us being intimate, and what if they're wrong and they're just cysts and they remove them and put him through that for nothing. My dad also has skin cancer and lives a fair step away, he is having immunotherapy and will possibly be starting radiotherapy. I feel guilty for feeling upset when it's not me going through it all. I like to know what I'm up against he doesn't, so I'm not getting much info. Any words of advice or info on what to expect would be gratefully received.
Hi Ruthie43 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
It's natural to worry about what the future holds for both you and your partner and to want to find out as much information as possible.
The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the testicular cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with the same or similar diagnosis.
To join just click on the link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You might also want to join the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one dealing a diagnosis.
I'm also going to add a link to a newly created blog which gives lots of information on how to find support within the online community.
It would be great if you could pop something about your partner's diagnosis and proposed treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
