Hello, 15 days ago I was taken to hospital in an emergency in a semi-paralysed state after waking up from a short nap. I had been seeing my GP from April for pains in my neck and lower back ,for which they had prescribed me increasing levels of pain relief. The pain over the last few months has been severe and I cant remember what it feels like to be pain free now.Over 5months , several visits and blood test the GP ordered an X-ray of my chest. The following day I was advised that I had cancer but it was not the origin. The final diagnosis is that I had prostate cancer at 48 which has spread to my spine. I am now suffering from M.S.C.C ( metastatic, spinal cord compression). This is a terimal disease and life limiting. I am still in hospital have had the treatment for the prostate cancer but my spine is damaged and struggling to comprehend how I got here. I need help to understand why and why me... its not fair. I'm lost...
Hi Patrick99 and welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your diagnoses and your ongoing treatments.
A cancer diagnosis can be such a stressful and challenging time and it sounds like you are still coming to terms with it all and yes the ‘why me?’. I have been in my cancer journey for over 23 years now and yes it sucks.
When it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are on the exact same cancer and treatment journey.
The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms). I do see that you have joined our Bone, secondary cancer and Spinal cord tumours groups.
You may also find our Prostate cancer and Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only groups helpful as well.
These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link(s) I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
