Bowel cancer

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer on the 13th October 2021 after I had done a bowel screening test. From then everything moved so fast and on the 20th December 2021 I had my operation. It was worse then they had expected plus I also had sepsis, they told me that I was very lucky to still be alive.
I now tell everyone to do the bowel screening test when they get it, I’m thankful my husband insisted I done mine.

I have had chemotherapy, that was so exhausting but I stuck with it. My husband kept saying you just need to stay positive and the chemo will help you. He was so right, I have four sessions out of eight. so now I wait till I have another scan and fingers crossed all is good.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your diagnoses but good to hear you are working through treatment and doing ok.

A cancer diagnosis can be such a stressful and challenging time but when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are on the exact same cancer and treatment journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) and I do see you have joined our Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link(s) I have created above. Once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Give me a shout if you need further help.

    All the very best.

  • Hi Skye3

Just picked up your post and it struck with me as for over ten years after doctors diagnosis of piles the FIT picked me up. Thank goodness for them.

I’ve researched out where they are as I’ve sent cards to thank everyone except them.

Well I’ve got it and two thank you cards will be sent they’re  life savers
I like you tell everyone to do the test! it’s worked.

    They’re doing it.

You keep telling them and talk about poo.

    That’s saving lives.

My Stoma saved my life. I’m part of the Bowel Cancer, and Stoma support group. They’re a great bunch and I’ve so much support

There’s lots of posts about chemo there and lots going through the same

    hope all goes well
