Living without my husband

Hi, I have just joined this group. My husband passed away in May 2022 from cancer. He was really poorly at the end but I kept my promise for him to die at home. It was exceptionally traumatic as it was just me as his carer, but I was happy to do it for him.

Now he has gone though I am finding it tough, flash backs when I least expect them and everything just feels odd. The house is too big, jobs that were always his chores are now mine and going out seems pointless, as for eating - cooking suddenly for one is joyless.

Anyone got any good tips on coping with life without him?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to hear about the passing of your husband - my sincere condolences. This can be such a stressful and challenging time but I do hope you will find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) and I do see that you have joined out very supportive Bereaved spouses and partners group. This is a safe place to talk to others who are navigating the same journey, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link(s) I have created above. Once the group page opens you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face at time like this can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Give me a shout if you need further help.

    All the very best ((hugs))
