Hello all, I’m new here.
My partner has advanced pancreatic cancer and was due to commence chemo tomorrow. Just a little back ground information, my partner is diabetic and has recently been put on to insulin injections. The insulin injections have only commenced since the cancer diagnosis.
After bloods today at the hospital we had a phone call to say his sugar levels were 40 and that they now had to cancel his chemo for tomorrow. He has told the staff at all visits his sugars are high usually in the 20’s or 30’s but only today has alarm bells starting ringing. We were told to arrange appointment with doctor tomorrow which we have done as we need to get levels down. The cancer nurse said if it were up to her he would be in hospital now. Our experience, so far, with the way things have been dealt with is not good. Has just added more stress.
Has anyone had a similar thing happen and anyone know what an acceptable sugar level would be for chemo treatment?
Thanks
Wellsy
Hi Wellsy and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your husband's chemo has been delayed due to his high sugar levels. I don't know what level is considered acceptable but I know what a worrying time this will be for you.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the pancreatic cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with this type of cancer. You could also see if any of the members there have had a similar problem with sugar levels.
To join just click on the link I've created and then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
