breast cancer after effects

Hi I had a lumpectomy operation on my left breast end of April this year and i am still feeling very achy and sore.

Is this normal?

I do look after my grandson once a week and take him out in my car which involves putting him in car seat etc.

Should i still take it easy? It has been 3 months since the op and 2 weeks since my radiotherapy finished but thought it would have all healed by now.

I would also like to start swimming and doing yoga again but am worried i may pot more strain on the area.

I am waiting for an appointment from the consultant to discuss results etc. but i am worried i am still feeling discomfort.

Has or does anyone feel like this?

Thankyou

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your post treatment challenges.

The post treatment effects on our bodies can last for weeks, months and in my case with my blood cancer - years… but when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are in the exact same position as you.

The Community has various support groups (discussion rooms) so can I suggest that you consider joining our supportive Breast cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Macmillan have many support services so do check out the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Give me a shout if you need further help.

    Best regards.

  • Thank you very much for your reply and help.

I will certainly do this and will call them also for advice and join the breast cancer group

    Regards

  • I have the same question. Lumpectomy in December, 5 day radiotherapy completed middle of February and my breast and arm pit has gone quite hard and still hurts. Swimming initially hurt quite a bit, daily swimming now seems to loosen things somewhat. But I do wonder whether the breast will ever stop hurting.

Left breast Radiotherapy also seems to have triggered mild LBBB symptoms in my heart and a shadow on my left lung. The new 5 day only treatment applies a double daily dose, which I fear was too much for my older body.

Has anybody got experience with this new 5 day only radiotherapy for breast cancer?

  • Hi  and welcome to you. If you look any the first post in this thread you will see information for joining our dedicated Breast cancer group as this would be the best place to connect with others who have walked the same cancer type journey and where you can ask questions.
