Hi Everyone,

I am new here. My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018. Was in remission for a year, then it came back. Few months ago it spread to his liver. Chemo stopped working.

He was referred to hospice care.

Dad is in hospital now. I don't live in my home country, which makes things more difficult. I can't just go and see him every day.

He doesn't want to talk with anyone on the phone (my mum visits him every day).

I am planning to go over there for at least few days (I have 11month old daughter, which does make things more challenging).

How do I deal with all of this and how should l speak with both my dad and mum? I've been crying every day since l found out that he is in hospital.

Thank you and hi everyone!

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis and prognosis. A cancer diagnosis like this in the family can be such a stressful and challenging time but I do hope you will find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.

I see that you have joined our supportive Supporting someone with incurable cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others who are in the same position, to ask questions and talk with others who understand.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
