Hello everyone,
Although I am aware of Macmillan I am new to this group. Not sure what I want to get out of this but my mum was diagnosed with stage 4 secondary breast cancer along who it spreading to various other parts of her body back in the height of covid March 2020. She had primary breast cancer almost 10 years ago when I was 21 years of age. Needless to say it came back and it came back good (or did it ever go away?!). She was given the diagnosis of it being “terminal” and that was like someone had punched me in the face. The doctor didn’t seem overly optimistic but 2 years down the line and she is still responding well to her treatment. I guess I have been struggling on and off with this black cloud hanging over me and the rest of the family just living and carry on. I think I just want to know what support is there and does anyone else with a family member (or themselves) feel like as much as ther are beautiful moments in life, there will always be a cloud about to break your life apart? Sorry if this seems sad to anyone, I think I just need to talk to someone after two years of “is this feeling normal”.
thanks if you read this! X
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your mum has incurable breast cancer and I know how difficult this must be for you all.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a safe place for carers, friends and families of people with a terminal diagnosis to discuss their emotions.
To join just click on the link I've created and then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
x
