Hello all, my mum has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma and started chemotherapy 2 weeks ago. I’ve never known anyone else go through chemo and just wondered what’s normal ??? She hasn’t eaten anything for 10days now, everytime she eats or drinks anything she’s screams in pain from her chest area then gags and brings up bile. She can’t sleep, has no energy, and just generally feels like she would rather die than go through this. They have said she will need about 6-9 rounds of chemo given every 3 weeks. She only has a week to go until her next dose but hasn’t even started to recover for the 1st lot. Surely this isn’t her life for the next 6 months plus ? Please tell me it gets better ? I should add she has been bed bound in hospital for 4 weeks already as she has a huge tumour on her leg that bleeds everytime she moves. Thanks
Hi 1234 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read how much pain your mum is in when eating. Has she reported this, along with her other side effects, to her chemotherapy team?
The online community is divided up into different support groups and there are quite a few different lymphoma groups. I'm going to give you the direct link to the main group, which is the Hodgkin lymphoma group, but if that isn't the correct one just reply to me with the type it is and I'll give you another link. Alternatively you can look through this list of cancer types to find the right group.
Once you've joined the relevant group you'll be able to post your questions directly to others who may have had similar experiences to your mum.
When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
Hi 1234 and second welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your mum’s Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable Low Grade skin Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so I understand this journey rather well..
We have a few Lymphoma groups so do join the group for your mum’s Lymphoma type and copy and paste the text into a new post.
General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma
I will keep an eye open for you.
