Hey all,
New to this and not entirely sure why I am posting, possibly to try and rid myself of the tension headache I have had for the last 3 days! Cathartic surely right?
mums had trouble swallowing for nearly a year, weak knees and classic signs that point towards throat cancer. She had a biopsy this week and although they didn’t ‘confirm’ there and then they pretty much did without saying the ‘c’ word. She saw several large black masses on the nasal camera as it went down her throat. I think she’s known for a while tbh they have called her back on Tues for a CT scan, I presume to stage the cancer and see how far it’s spread.
she’s been a smoker for 60 years so as much as it’s slightly unsurprising it’s also still a shock. She only became a first grandmother a few years ago and I know that’s her biggest sadness - the possibility of cutting short this time with her grandchild. We are older kids in our 40s so she knows we are fine.
I guess I am curious about ‘what next’ what to expect and what questions to ask. I live over 400 miles away from her so I feel rather helpless. And also angry? Is that normal? I feel terrible for even saying that aloud. She’s already told me she won’t give up smoking even now so I wonder what her treatment options will be? Will they treat her if she still smokes, and if so what options?
thank you
Hi Songbird2022 and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear about Mum. It must be hard for you living so far away.
