Hi Sleepy, just joined the group 10 mins ago, i was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January this year , as like you i had the same options , i chose hormone therapy and radiotherapy , ( lesser of two evils in my opinion ), my PSA last August was 7.4, December ,it was 8.4 , last test i had in April, and it was 0.3 , yes ....0.3 . due back in for a scan 11 July, and get my programme worked out , and start radiotherapy ,"25 July, for 4 weeks mon-Fri, , i was fortunate in having a very good friend , who was diagnosed 8 years ago with prostate cancer ,and he has been with me every step of the way since day 1 ,

  • Hi  and a welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your diagnoses. A cancer diagnosis can be such a stressful and challenging time but when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are in the same position.

The Community has various support groups (discussion rooms) and I do see you have joined our supportive Prostate cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Macmillan have many support platforms so do check out the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Give me a shout if you need further help.

    Best regards.

  • Hello just joined the forum and read your entry. I have a husband who is 82 and he had prostate cancer 19 years ago and he was told the best treatment to get rid of it was radiotherapy and hormoan therapy. He had 42 treatments monday to friday in Spain. The bad news is he know has bladder cancer and was told the radiotherapy has caused it. But if he hadnt had that treatment he would never had 19 years with me. So you have to waigh the odds up. Have a talk to those that are in charge of you. Good luck from Sylvie PS his PSA was 42 and after the treatment it was 0.1 the hormon tablets was called casadex
