I'm new to this community and the world of cancer.
I was diagnosed with stage 2 low grade Non Hodgkin Lymphoma around five years ago. Since then I've been under a watch a wait plan but it's since become more active and I'll be starting chemotherapy once a week every three weeks. Even though my medical team are positive about my prognosis, it's all pretty overwhelming. It just feels like I've been on the outskirts of cancer but now I've been thrust into it without a safety net. My diagnosis was one thing but this is so incredibly isolating and I was wondering if anyone else felt like this?
The few friends and family I do have don't get it and sometimes make it a lot worse. I feel ungrateful and guilty a lot of the time because I know it really could be worse, but I'm so anxious about what's going to happen and what might happen.
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable but very treatable Low Grade (skin) Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so I do understand this journey rather well.
The Community is made up of support groups (discussion rooms) so this is a link to our General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma group
This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
I will keep an eye open for you but if you are not sure get back to me on this post and I will help you out further.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for welcoming me and for the link. I've followed your suggestions and joined the NHL group. If I'm honest I was in two minds about joining this online community and part of me resents needing it, but I'm so grateful.
Thank you,
Fenix
