Been diagnosed nearly 5 years in November but I have had problems with immediate family whom I receive no support from at all. When I am unwell or have to attend appointments with GP or at hospital I get tuts, raised eyebrows or the Spanish inquisition why I need to go.Im not receiving chemotherapy so as far as they are concerned I cant really be ill.
During the first lockdown I was actually called selfish for shielding and putting my self care first.Even now I have been advised to be careful because of Covid as immunocompromised yet I am begrudged the self care I've been advised to do to protect myself both physically and mentally. It's very lonely at times
Has anyone else had the same problems because I or my GP dont understand wht this resentment and it causes ma a great deal of distress when I dont need it .
They wont discuss why this problem I have a booklet one of my practice nurses ordered but it was thrown back at me and I was told I shouldn't be discussing this with other people
Hi Jenny_w2 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm really sorry to read that you feel you've had no real support from your immediate family and this must be very difficult for you on top of your cancer diagnosis.
Although we can't give you physical support here we can all certainly give you emotional support. The online community is divided up into different support groups so if you can tell me what sort of cancer you have been diagnosed with I can give you a direct link to that group for support. Alternatively you can look through this list and choose the right one for you.
When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
