Hi, hope joined OK struggling with emails on my phone... just been diagnosed with breast cancer, lymph nodes affected and further to spots in my neck, lungs, liver and bones. The shock is overwhelming every day, at 52 it seems as though 20 years have passed in a week. The amazing oncologist thinks he can keep me going for "years" which seems very hopeful with chemo. Last night I had quite a panic attack, waking up and feeling unable to breath...really thought that was it, its the struggling breathing that has suddenly happened in literally 2 weeks, is this normal? Does it get better or is that it now? Thanks
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read about your recent diagnosis and I know how hard it can be when first diagnosed. However, in my experience once you have a treatment plan things will feel easier. Again, it took quite a while, but one day I suddenly realised that it had been a while since cancer was the first thing on my mind when I woke up and the last thing on my mind before I fell asleep at night.
The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the secondary breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with this type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
