Can anyone recommend a good source of open toed compression socks please?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm assuming that you're going to be undergoing surgery and that is why you're asking about compression socks. Both times I've had an operation under a general anaesthetic I've been given a pair of compression stockings to put on when I've got changed ahead of surgery. You could check with your hospital to see if they do this.

The online community is divided up into different support groups but you haven't said what type of cancer you've been diagnosed with. If you're happy to tell me I can provide you with a direct link for that group or alternatively you could look through this list.

When you feel up to it it would be good if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help

  • Thanks for the reply latchbrook.  The enquiry is for a friend.  She is on a long regime of chemo and now has lymphedema in her ankle/leg.  Her physio suggested compression socks would help.  Looking online the choice is vast - different prices and different qualities.  She just wants a steer on some good ones.

  • I think a good group for you to join would be the lymphoedema group as it's a place for people affected by lymphoedema to share experiences and support each other and you could ask there what people would recommend.

If you'd like to do this then clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

I hope your friend can get her lymphoedema under control.

  • There are fitted lymphatic garments, in ,n,z provided by the hospital. In addition the legs are best up on a lazy boy. Or in bed big place European pillows under the knees. Also wear long socks , I used to the knee high hiking socks and wore them 24/7.

Also tubi grip is an easily applied compression support. Get the widest size.  "G" Exercise and foot paddling in cool water helps. Massage  specifically to sweep the fluid from the ankle up to the groin
