Hi,
I was diagnosed on Tuesday with grade 1 breast cancer after having 2 biopsies. Both came back showing cancer present. I was told I need to make a decision by Friday if I want breast reconstruction. I am type 2 diabetic and the recovery is longer and risk of infection is higher.
Is there anyone here who is diabetic and had the reconstruction, I understand there are fewer options available.
Hearing other people's experiences might be helpful, my knee jerk reaction was not to have reconstruction the option to have it at a later date is still there, but another operation has the same risks. Although this has given me a kick up the backside to work on reducing my blood sugars.
Any thoughts would be appreciated I am one of five sisters we have all now been diagnosed with cancer. 2 sadly lost to lung cancer and 2 survivor's of breast cancer.
I know I am lucky to have been diagnosed early both areas are small grade 1. I think what floored me was I never expected to be told I needed a mastectomy, because it was small I had in my mind that I would have a lumpectomy the same as my sisters. If I'm totally honest I've reached that age where my boobs are lumpy anyway and just thought it would cysts.
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your diagnoses and the challenges you are facing.
A cancer diagnosis can be such a stressful and challenging time but when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are on the same treatment pathway. I do hope you will find the community a safe place to ask your questions and connect with others.
The Community has various cancer specific support groups (chat rooms) so can I recommend that you consider joining our supportive Breast cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
