Hello I’m new to the group my husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 2 weeks ago and spent a week on the renal unit before he could start his treatment as it has also damaged his kidneys and has to have dialysis 3 times a week. We seem to be at appointments every day and he is exhausted. PET scan today to see how the disease is progressing and he will be admitted to the cancer centre this afternoon as he has fluid on his lungs and chest infection. The chest line for dialysis keeps leaking which I think is due to the lack of platelets in his blood.  He is so anxious and is struggling to breathe when walking and, being self employed brings a whole lot of other worries of how we will pay the bills.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your husband has recently been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and I know what a difficult time this will be for you both.

When you've had a cancer diagnosis the last thing you want to worry about are your finances so you might like to take a look at this information from Macmillan on self-employment and cancer

I can see that you've already found and joined the carers only group which you'll find is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have someone dealing with cancer.

You might also like to join the myeloma group which will give you the chance to ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer.
