Hello

3 weeks ago my mother(79) was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer.

it’s stage 3 and has spread to her lymph nodes. After a week she was sent home. Now back in hospital as she can’t keep anything down.
I’m trying to be strong for her and my dad. In private the smallest thing sets me off crying like a baby. I don’t k ow how to cope with this.

she is a strong woman who always cares for others.. For  about 30 years she escorted kids with cerebral palsy to and from school. Sadly she had to give try this updue to her age.

She doesn’t deserve this evil thing.

Dad is also in hospital but that is not cancer related .

I’m stasting strong for them but in private I can’t stop crying.’

Im a mental wreck.
Don’t  know what I can do to help em

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer and that your dad is also in hospital. It must be an incredibly hard time for you right now.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have loved ones living with cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it it would be good if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis. A cancer diagnosis in the family like this can be a stressful and challenging time but I do hope you will find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.

The Community has various support groups (chat rooms) so can I recommend that you consider joining our supportive Gall bladder cancer and Lymph nodes, secondary cancer groups

These are safe place ms to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and talk with others who are supporting family and friends on their treatment pathway.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.

You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].

When it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from joining our general Carers only group where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

Macmillan have many support platforms so do check out the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too.

These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and provide support for all the family.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best.
