Hi, my Dad is 13 days in HDU after whipple surgery, taking a lot longer than expected but has had banana, yoghurt & some clips removed today so feel like we are moving forward. Dad is v miserable, still in a lot of pain, anyone else else been through similar?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that it's taking your dad longer to recover from surgery than expected and I can understand what a worrying time this must be for the whole family.

I can see that you've joined the pancreatic cancer group so I'm presuming that is the type of cancer that your dad has. When you feel ready to post there I'm sure you'll find it's a great place to ask questions and share experiences with the same type of cancer.

Can I suggest that you might like to look at joining either the carers only group, if you are your dad's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not his carer. Both groups are safe and supportive places to discuss your emotions and worries with others who have a loved one dealing with cancer.

To join just click on the appropriate link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it it would be good if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
