Hi,
I joined today as I'm the primary carer of my mum who is currently having 6.5 weeks of Chemo and Radiotherapy for Lung cancer. It has resurfaced after having part of her lung removed in Dec 2020. She has been doing well but is currently in hospital with very low blood count, platelets and immunity. My father also has prostate cancer and other underlying health concerns.
I am working full time in a primary school, running my household and family life and caring for my mum. I keep having recurring illnesses. At the moment I have laryngitis. This obviously means I'm not much help to my mum as I can't risk her catching anything, which is unbearable! I'm just wondering how people cope? Is this repeated illness a sign of stress? I'm seeking any advice out there please.
Thanks
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read about both your mum and dad's diagnoses and I know how hard it must be for the whole family right now.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join and post in the carers only group which will give you the opportunity to talk to other carers about how they cope.
To join just click on the link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel up to it it would be good if you could pop something about your mum and dad's diagnoses and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
