I've just being diagnosed with prostate cancer,  its not aggressive or spreading,  it is just sitting there in the prostate.

I'm on Active surveillance they call it every 3 months I get a blood test .

I glad it's just sitting there ,but is alittle worrying,  cause I lost my dad to prostate in 1990 .

Anyone out there that has the same  !!!!!!!

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your Prostate Cancer diagnosis. A cancer diagnosis can be so stressful and challenging but I do hope you find the community a safe place to ask your questions and when it comes to support there is nothing better than talking with others who are on the same journey.

The Community has dedicated cancer specific support groups so can I recommend that you consider joining our supportive Prostate cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.

You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear and our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section may be helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and provide support for all the family.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best.

Thank you Highlander , I read your journey,  one heck of a rough ride , glad you are still here .

I will join the prostate site as you mentioned,  crazy as this sounds I used to work as a HCA level 4 , until I was diagnosed with degenerative discs disorder in 1999 , so my career was over .

I worked in most of the theaters , including urology.

It's not sunk in yet , my family and friends are all amazing they have been there for me.

Take care and hopefully talk to you again .

By the way my name is dave

Ditto mate I'm the same , Ive been on active surveillance for 6 months now and to be honest now I only get a bit anxious when it's testing time.but you know they are watching you like a hawk and the minute it thinks about misbehaving they will be on it for you. My friend has ben on it for 2 years and he says now he barely gives it a thought. You ain't on your own there's plenty of us in the same position so don't worry.

  • Get a biopsy- Ask about your Gleeson score. This measures how much the cancer from a biopsy looks like healthy tissue or not
