Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum. My mother has been diagnosed with kidney cancer in the past few days. A 10cm tumour. They have said that they cannot operate and remove the tumour as we hoped because of the spread, but that my mother would start immunotherapy treating her body as a whole. Too early to know about stage, grade etc though from what I’ve read it would seem to be Stage 4. We have the biopsy next week after much chasing. We are all in total shock and seem to be going through every stage of emotion but doing everything in our power to get things moving so that my mother gets the best care we can in the quickest possible time. A few things have been poorly handled by the GP and alongside that very poor communication but we trying to look forward and not back and focus on what matters most right now which of course is my mother and her health . Any positive stories about kidney cancer, immunotherapy treatment, advice on NHS v private for treatments etc very gratefully received.
Hi Melificent and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer and it's perfectly natural to feel as you do.
As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the kidney cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer.
When you're ready to start posting there just click on the link I've created (green writing) and then start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
I think you might also benefit from joining either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both groups are safe and supportive places to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have someone living with cancer. To join one of these groups just click on the appropriate link and then join in the same way as you did both this group and the kidney cancer group.
When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
