Hi, I had quite severe breast pain about 2 months ago as well as a rash and inverted nipple. My GP hoped it was an infection and prescribed antibiotics for 7 days. The rash did clear up, the pain subsided and my nipple appeared more normal initially, The last few weeks however, my breast is achy (rather than painful) and I have been referred to my breast clinic, I've just found out the waiting time in 40 weeks as it was marked as routine. I do feel there are now changes to my nipple, it somehow seems thicker (if that makes sense?) and my breast is heavy with a dull ache. Whilst I'm happy the GP didn't see it as urgent I am concerned with the way I'm feeling just now that a 40 week wait is too long and wonder if I should revisit my GP. I don't want to waste their time though. Can any one offer any advice?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your ongoing concerns.

For what’s it’s worth my advise is to go back to your GP and ask for an urgent referral. I am in Scotland also and there are challenges in waiting times with the 62 day GP to cancer treatment not being achieved over the past 10 years.

The New to Community area is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various cancer support groups and other services so can I recommend that you consider joining our supportive Breast cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.

You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear and our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best.
