Hi I’m laura I have autism and had my fifth treatment for stomach cancer am feeling very lonely

  • Hi @Chloe49 I’m sorry to hear you feel lonely but you’ve made the first step and reached out on here where I’m sure you won’t feel lonely for long. I joined after my diagnosis of  BC and found it an immense support especially during the early hours of the morning when our minds won’t let us sleep with the never ending questions that keep popping into them. I found it was good to post and chat and everyone has always been super supportive I hope you find that too. Good Luck with the rest of your journey. Xx

Hithanks for replying to me means a lot I know exactly what you mean about those early morning thorts and qwestions in our brains when everyone else is asleep and your the only one awake I’m struggling to eat normal food as I have terrible heartburn so I’m sticking to just Ensure at the moment aswell

  • Hi Chloe

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and these early days and nights are the worst! If you join the Stomach Cancer group, you will find others who have the same diagnosis and are going through treatment.

I had stomach cancer three years ago and it was treated successfully. I now lead a normal life, eating and drinking as I always did! Just smaller amounts!

Do post questions and we will try to help!

Are you having tests to determine a treatment plan?

It must be really difficult for you especially because of your autism.  Do you have someone you can talk to?  I found Maggie’s Centre really good if you have one near you.  The support from Macmillan is great too,  sometimes you need help to understand what is happening.

Take care and if I can help do post here!

  • Hi Laura  and a second warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer jour eye can a lonely time but I do hope you find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.

As has been highlighted do join our supportive Stomach cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear and our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Macmillan also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.

Talking to people face to face when on a cancer journey can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area.

And I see that Maggie's Centres have been mentioned, these folks are amazing and provide some support.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best ((hugs))
