Hi all I went to see my GP 10 days ago with a large growth under the skin on my neck. He said I had an urgent referral to see a specialist within 2 weeks.
I then had a call off macmillian cancer support yesterday saying I had a phone consultation booked for June 01st with no further information.
So to say I'm confused and is this the new process have I got cancer or is this how it goes

A large growth on your neck under your skin could be anything, very often these lumps are raised Lymph-Nodes these can be raised because of lots of reasons from infection to yes, cancer of some type....... but at this early stage please do not read into this.
The call you received from Macmillan Cancer Support will most likely have been from a Nurse who wears the Macmillan Badge and covers many roles around a Hospital Department - getting a call from a Macmillan Specialist Nurse does not necessarily mean you have cancer....... did they say what department they were calling from?
The aim of an urgent referral is to be seen within 2 weeks but this is often not achieved but your call is not that far away.
Your blood tests can raise flags as to something not be right and needs to be looked at further as further Tests would have to be done to say what this actually is.
The waiting is hard but can can call the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.
