Cancer Diagnosis

Hi there I have just joined this group today. My wife had breast cancer 27 years ago and it has come back and infected her lungs and bones. She is under care of the local hospital and has just completed her first 21 days of taking chemotherapy tablets which have really knocked her about. We have been informed that there is no cure as the cancer is contained in nodules within her lung tissue.

She has lost two and a half stones in weight and her appetite is very poor. Her consultant has said she will possibly feel poorly until she has completed her third batch of chemo tablets. I am her carer and she has no strength whatsoever and both our mental health has been affected. My wife is really struggling to get through each day.

Is anyone else in this group going through this with localised chemotherapy? Can anyone offer any advice as to what we can do. We moved here from the Midlands 11 years ago and do not have the friend support we had and it’s like the two of us are trying to take on the whole world.

Thank you

Brummie Nick

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm really sorry to read that your wife has recently discovered that her breast cancer has returned. It must be particularly hard as she's been cancer free for such along time.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join and post in the secondary breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this type of cancer.

Another group which I think you'd benefit from joining is the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and concerns with others who are caring for someone living with cancer.

To go to the groups just click on the links I've created (green writing) and then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
