Hi
I went for a ultrasound of my abdomen last Sunday (24 April) because of some post menopausal bleeding. While there the radiologist said I needed a transvaginal scan. This revealed thickening of the lining of the womb so she said she would refer me to the gynaecology team so they can take a biopsy. She suggested I’d probably get an appointment within a fortnight. I was a little concerned then put it to the back of my mind. Unfortunately on Tuesday my GP rang me and said he was sorry but he wanted to be honest. He advised me to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I was left reeling after the phone call. I’m a happy go lucky person who likes a good belly laugh ever day but now I feeling anxious. We lost my wonderful dad to cancer less than a year ago so we’re still trying to come to terms with his passing.
tI’m reaching out because I’ve got a question and wondered if someone online would be able to answer it. When I go for the biopsy will I be told the result of the biopsy there and then or will I have to go back at a later date?
Thank you for taking the time to read my message.
SJ
Hi SJ1 and a warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis.
The cancer diagnosis process can be stressful and challenging in so many ways but I do hope you find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.
To answer your question…..
When I go for the biopsy will I be told the result of the biopsy there and then or will I have to go back at a later date?
Your biopsy will have to be sent to pathology to be tested and a report will be sent to the appropriate Consultant/Department who will then arrange an appointment where you will get the results and a treatment plan if required. So you do need to be prepared for a further wait of up to 10-14 days.
The New to Community is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various cancer support groups and other services.
Can I recommend that you consider joining our supportive Womb (uterus) cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.
You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].

Talking to people face to face when on a cancer journey (patient or family) can be very helpful but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing and provide support for all the family.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best ((hugs))
