Hi there, I've joined this community as a very close friend of mine has been diagnosed with kidney cancer. She was only diagnosed about 2 months ago and when they went to operate the tumour had already grown an inch & so they couldn't operate. She's in so much pain, they've released her from hospital but they're still trying to get her pain relief sorted. I want to do everything I can to support her and her wife too but don't know the best way to help. I'm scared too, about the future and losing her. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give me. Thank you xx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your friend has recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer and it's great that you want to help and support her as much as possible.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the kidney cancer group, where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have the same type of cancer, and also the family and friends group, which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and find out how others have helped.

Clicking on the links I've created will take you to the groups where you can join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your friend's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
