I’m caring for my elderly mother who was diagnosed with lung cancer 4 weeks ago. She’s been too ill to withstand a biopsy so if it’s supposed to be a certain kind I’ve no idea what it is. She’s at home now under a palliative care team. At the moment it’s just me and her at night and to be honest, I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing and I’m really scared. I spend most of the night rushing to her room when she makes the slightest noise. Sorry this isn’t the jolliest of introduction posts, I think writing this down is helping in its own way.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
As you know the community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already joined the lung cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others with the same type of cancer as your mother.
When you feel ready to post in there just click on the link above and you can then start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
I think you would also benefit from joining the supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you can discuss your emotions as well as discuss practical issues about palliative care. If you'd like to join this group clicking on the link will take you there where you can join and then post in the same way as you did here.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mother's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
