Hi all,
My sister has stage 4 rectal cancer, which has also spread to her lungs. She is a single mum to two children 11 & 14.
She has had to move in with my parents recently as she is unable to look after herself and the children. This is quite difficult as my father is also a carer for my mum who has dementia.
My employer has been amazing and has given me extended compassionate leave as my sister's health has deteriorated over the last month.
I am hoping to talk to other people that have a shared experience, to get support and clarity at this very difficult time.
Thank you
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place.
I'm really sorry to read about your sister's recent diagnosis and it's natural that you want to do all you can to help.
As the community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to connect with other friends and families of people with a cancer diagnosis.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your sister's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
