Hi everyone. I started my chemo yesterday for a squamous carcinoma on the base of my tongue. It looks like I'll be having 3 rounds or 3 weeks chemo them 6 weeks go IMRT at Charing Cross in London. I was only diagnosed 4 week ago so it's been quite a rollercoaster but I knew something was wrong so it wasn't entirely a surprise. A friend is about 2 months ahead of me with the same cancer with she's gone the surgery route. She was the person who said I just had to join this community. I'm a London tour guide which has made the extra scary as I talk for a living!

I've been avoiding googling anything. I just want to listen to my team and the kindness and wisdom of people who've been there.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

As the community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the head and neck cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with your type of cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
