Having reach 5 years clear my wife's cancer has returned. She is to start radiotherapy and Chemotherapy 5days a week for 5/6 weeks. I plan to drive her to the hospital and look after at home.. I have just been diagnosed with bowel cancer and will need operation..

My problem is we have no one to help either one of us when the other needs treatment or drive to the hospital..

Any suggestions welcome, difficult to get my head around this..

Many thanks

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that both you and your wife have cancer diagnoses and I can understand what a difficult time this will be for you both.

As the community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences about this type of cancer, and also the carers only group where you could put your question about possible support.

You haven't mentioned what type of cancer your wife has so if you'd like to tell me I can provide you with a direct link to that group. Alternatively you can look through this list and choose the appropriate cancer type.

To join the groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about yours and your wife's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help

  • Hi Emu. So sorry you are both fighting this at the same time I don’t know what services your GP and district nurse might offer but you could start there for practical help.
Some hospitals offer transport  for people attending RT and chemotherapy so maybe ask your wife’s Clinical Nurse to look into that for you?
    Best wishes
