I was diagnosed in June 2018 with stage 4 Prostate Cancer.

I travelled to China and had CIK Immunotherapy in December 2018 and again in September 2019.  Tests and scans in the UK in early 2020 showed me to be clear of cancer completely and my PSA was 0.037, which was amazing.

However, the cancer is back and is now in my spine, collarbone upper right humerus two ribs, sternum and lymph nodes.as well as the prostate.

My Oncologists reckons I have 2 - 3 years, so my wife and I wanted to tick off a few bucket list items before I sign off. One of these is a trip to Canada to see the Rockies and we booked a fly-drive holiday for October.

However, I have been declined by three insurance companies.

The problem seems to be my blood pressure situation. I have had high blood pressure for about 20 years for which I have taken two medications for as long as that. But my Oncologist put me on Enzalutamide (Xtandi) which has pushed my blood pressure up and my GP prescribed a third medication for the blood pressure.

The result is that as soon as we get to that in the questions - they all switch off.

Has anyone else had this experience and has anyone found a way around it?  I don't mind travelling without specified sections of medical cover - but so far nobody will accept me.

I cant face not doing this trip with my wife - so any help would be gratefully received.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.

Unfortunately, as you've found, it's harder to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you can find recommendations from others who have successfully obtained travel insurance that doesn't cost more than the holiday!

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel ready, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
