Hello,
I am currently awaiting results from a CT scan following a routine ultrasound of my gallbladder as the GP thought I had gallstones. Gallbladder all good but they found two masses on my liver. GP predicts aggressive cancer, seconds et in liver, said I need a miracle! To be honest I am now really struggling with the wait and my emotions. Feel physically sick every day with worry and can’t get past it.
Any help or support would be greatly appreciated as I am petrified. I’m 44 and 3 weeks ago was oblivious to anything. I was only sent for a scan as I showed an inflammation on blood test.
Lf77, What a bombshell you've just been given. Your GP needs a smack too for saying you need a miracle! Also your GP is not telling you the results of your CT scan, they're just "predicting" so you don't know for sure what is wrong. It must be such a terrible time for you with a GP's suggestions churning round your head.
Have you friends and family to confide in? The Macmillan help line is open til 8pm and they will listen and support you too as well as us on here. Are you going to work at the moment? Distractions are often the only way to get through the dreadful waiting for results period.
Walks, gardening, exercise, cooking, gaming, (no googling symptoms allowed), anything you can think of to keep mind and body busy and tired basically. Keep posting here too. Take care x
Hi Lf77,
Your doctor should not have said this, as allotment lover has said they're only "predicting".
I had something similar last year when they said my cancer was likely to be secondary and there would be a primary elsewhere and the future was very bleak, this turned out to be false.
Please contact McMillan support or speak to friends as it is a very difficult time whilst waiting for results, reach out to friends and family. Stay strong and let us know how you get on
Hugs
Chrissy x
Thank you kindly for your reply. I have so much support from family and friends, but I’ve found it so difficult to remain positive. My husband is amazing but it’s breaking his heart.
I am currently studying to be a teacher, due to finish in June but it’s like the world has been put on hold and it’s been extremely hard to concentrate.
Thank you so much. There is nothing that prepared me for those words ‘miracle’ ‘uncureable’.
I know the GP thought he was helping but I just can’t forget those words. I’m praying that he has got it wrong but it’s so hard to not believe that now.
I will let you know how I get on.
Lou
Hi Lf77 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.
Everyone here will agree that waiting for results is really horrible and that we've all felt better once we know what we're dealing with and have a treatment plan in place.
Feeling scared is perfectly natural and there's no right or wrong way to deal with these feelings. Some people find it helps to carry on with normal activities as much as possible. Continuing with everyday activities, such as going to work, can be a welcome distraction from worrying. Other people may feel they cannot concentrate on anything else.
Some people look for more information about cancer during this time. Searching for information can help you feel more in control while you wait for your results. However, if you are not sure of the diagnosis, some information can be confusing and upsetting so it may be better to wait until a diagnosis is made before looking for more information. If you do decide to find out more, it is a good idea to make sure the information is from a reliable source like this site or Cancer UK.
However, if your feelings are impacting on your daily life to the extent that you say, ie feeling physically sick, you may need to have a word with your GP who should be able to help you.
As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the liver cancer and secondary liver cancer groups which are both great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have had a diagnosis or, who like you, are waiting for results.
When you feel ready clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
I know it's easy to say but try to remember that worrying won't change the results but will have a massive impact on your quality of life in the meantime.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
