Week before xmas thought I felt small lump which my doctor referred me to breast unit within a week I had appointment to see consultant, have mamorgram, ultra sound biopsies taken and mri scan. result shocked me was expecting a small lump but it was grade 2 lobular cancer and no choice but mastectomy and lymph nodes taken for testing.   Confirmed all the cancer was removed and no need for chemo or radiationbut would have to take anti-hormone tablets.  Finding the enormity of it all hard to understand.  My worst problem is the pain under arm where lymph nodes were taken. Cannot sleep just cant get comfortable.taking pain killers and using voltoral for muscle ache.  Is this all normal after surgery and how long before I can be out of pain I am nearly five weeks after having surgery.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both informative and supportive.

I'm sorry to read that you're in a lot of pain under your arm where your lymph nodes were removed. As the community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
