hi all.
im new to this forum.i have had a surgery for breast cancer 17/01/2022.Where a large Tumour was removed from my left breast and also sentinel lymph nodes were removed.when I had my prep, it was hoped that I would just need Radithearpy and endocrine therapy.myself I was relieved and couldn’t wait to get radiotherapy started after surgery and back to normal working life, exercise, swimming and ballroom dancing with my hubby.
however after receiving the results to say 1 lymph nodes contained cancer cells and the Tumour in breast was larger than expected but a clear margin was removed from my consultant late Monday evening.I was greatly relieved knowing the cancer was all removed. However as a preventative treatment I will now need chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endocrine therapy.
i feel totally and completed daunted by the thought of having chemo and I can’t return to my normal working and things I do for pleasure.im really struggling I spoke with my breast care nurse yesterday but it sounds selfish as I have the rest of my life after treatment but I can’t find the sunshine in my day. I have very supportive family&friends.
however I don’t want to be on a downer and offload my negativity as my sister had her results on Tuesday evening from a mole removed from ironically her left breast just before my breast cancer surgery.she was told it was a cancerous melanoma, she will need further surgery to get a clearer margin&sentinel lyphmnodes removed.
i just can’t believe my family have been dealt such a daunting blow as there’s no breast cancer within our family.my cancer is different to my sister.neither thankfully contains the Brach gene.
im sorry to go on but I’m new to this forum and feeling so scared by what is to come
Hi and welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your BC diagnosis and ongoing treatment. This is such a challenging and stressful time for you but I do hope you find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.
The New to Community is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various cancer specific support groups and other services so can I recommend that in the first instant you consider joining our supportive Breast cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit ‘Chat’ or ‘New here, say hello’ and you are ready to go.
You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.
To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section.
Talking to people face to face can help a lot but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best ((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
