Hi all x it has taken me a while to get round to joining and post on here. Tried to do this with the support of family and friends but don't want to keep off loading on them and for them to try to help but not having the answers. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in early December. On the 30th December I had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed. Thankfully the lymph nodes were clear. The margin was not great round the tumour. The tumour had gone from grade 2 to 3 between diagnosis and surgery. I had my follow-up appointment on the 24th January and was told I would need chemo and radiotherapy. I have since seen a copy of the letter sent to my doctor that says I may need the chemo. My appointment with the oncologist is on the 24th February. So my concern is that it will have been 2 months between surgery and getting a treatment plan. As there is cancer in the tissue around the tumour I am worried. Please excuse the lengthy post. Just needed to get it off my chest, no pun intended!

  • Hi, I’m in the same situation as yourself, I went to my doctor 23;11/2021 urgent referral sent TWW seen consultant, scans MRI, CT bloods, Biopsy, PT/CT another CT for the radiotherapy treatment plan Monday passed, it will be nearly 3 months since I first went to my doctors.

im starting my cemo/ radiation on the 21/2/22. As far as I’m concerned far too long.

I did raise my concerns at my oncologist meeting last week, and said that I wanted it noted on my records about the leant of time in starting treatment, and my concern of the cancer spread due to the time it has taken.

  • Hi again  I think you may have ment to post this in the Breast cancer group

Why not copy and paste this into a new post in the BC group ((hugs))

  • Hi, thank you for getting in touch x I'm sorry to hear that you are also having to wait. Do you know how long you will be having chemo/radiotherapy for? I don't even see the oncologist for another 3 weeks and I was told the margins aren't clear. I will make sure that when I have my appointment I let them know I want it on my notes about my concern over the length of time between surgery and appointment and then the potential wait for treatment

  • Hi Mike, thanks Blush I will find my way around the site eventually

  • Hi, start treatment 21/02/2022 1 week of cemo/radiotherapy stay in hospital for that week then 3.5 weeks of radiotherapy as an out of hospital, then last week back in hospital for cemo/radiotherapy. They said to me it the planning of the radiotherapy that takes the longest, 3.5 weeks “ I don’t think so. I’m not a happy bunny.

I would love love to hear other people’s experiences on the waiting times from doctors referral to exact start date of treatment, from different areas of the country. I’m in Edinburgh Scotland.

I did also say to the consultant that it was on the radio that morning on 25/01/2022 (Talk Radio Julia Hartley-Brewer)  a know fact that the U.K. has the worst outcomes of cancer in the whole of the EU.

Listen to Julia Hartley-Brewer, ( talk RADIO ) speaking this morning 25/01/2022 to Professor Carl Heneghan Oxford University.
