Hi, my partner was admitted to hospital via A and E following a seizure in mid December. It was discovered that he had a brain tumour and then that he had a mass in his lung and also a lesion on his kidney. His discharge letter states "he is aware that the most likely diagnosis is from a primary lung tumour spreading to the brain and possibly the kidney.". . Naturally this was pretty devastating, especially since he had been entirely symptomless before the seizure. In the first week in January he had a further CT scan of his kidney and a biopsy. Since than we have heard nothing - no results of the tests, no indication of who to contact or what the next step is. We have contacted our GP who has promised to write for further information.
I guess my question are
1) is this a normal wait for further information and results?
2) does what we have been told so far amount to a diagnosis (for the purposes of calculating wait for treatment times) or are we still waiting for an official diagnosis?
3) how do we deal with the wait for information - other than by reading general online information, which is, frankly, pretty disturbing.
4) how unwell is my husband likely to get and how quickly, how do I find out about the actual practical needs he is likely to face?
Hi grumpyish and welcome to the online community
It's natural that you're both feeling pretty devastated after you partner's recent diagnosis and that you have lots of questions.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer group which is a great place to ask your questions and to share experiences with others who have this type of cancer. Another group which I think you'd benefit from joining is the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others caring for someone with cancer.
To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
