Hello to everyone
My husband started treatment in January 2021 and his still receiving treatment, and feels very down with covid and that life just consists of being stuck indoors. We have a dog which we take out for walks but his getting so depressed and I'm worried about him. Has anyone got ideas that might get him out but keep him safe.
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your husbands Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare Low Grade Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so understand this journey rather well. The isolation and challenges surrounding living with Lymphoma can be an issue but it should not define him and definitely not lead to him being depressed..... you need to talk with others who are walking the Lymphoma journey.
The New to Community is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various cancer specific support groups and other services so can I recommend that in the first instant you consider joining our supportive Follicular Lymphoma group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions, get support and talk with others who are supporting family and friends on their journey.
If you'd like to connect in with a group, you do need to join the group. Click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit ‘Chat’ or ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’ and you are ready to go.
You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.
I will keep an eye open for you but if you are not sure get back to me on this post and I will help you out further.
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read about your husband's diagnosis and how worried you are about him.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the follicular lymphoma group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences about this type of cancer and it's treatment, and also the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries with others who have a loved one living with cancer.
To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel ready, it would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
