So today was they day we got called in to see the consultant.
Started with left side lump in his neck so referred for a ultrasound.
30th December he had an ultrasound and ended up having a biopsy and CT scan with contrast dye. Shock.
They found around another 15 lumps in thyroid and lymph nodes on the right side of the neck. On the ultrasound.
on Monday I had to take my son to GP as his right side of neck appeared to be getting bigger by the day.
they gave me the consultants number to call and discovered we had a follow up appointment for the 20th next week.
yesterday we had another call to say scrap that appointment we are to go in this morning instead.

so this morning we were told he has thyroid cancer at 18.
we have been referred to a different hospital and have an apt on Tuesday.
Already been told that he needs his thyroid removed and the radioactive iodine.

has anyone else had thyroid cancer this young?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the online community

It sounds like you and your son have been going through a lot over these past couple of weeks and I know how worrying this can all be.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the thyroid cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences about this type of cancer and it's treatment, and also either the carers only group or the family and friends group which are both safe and supportive places to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one dealing with cancer.

To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel ready, it would be great if you could pop something about your son's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
