Hi my husband was taken into hospital just before Christmas, we were told that he had a tumour on his bowel, his lymph nodes were swollen and there were what looked like tumours on his liver. He had an operation before Christmas to remove the tumour and was allowed out for Christmas. We had our first consultation this morning and were told that it wasn’t the aggressive bowel cancer that they thought but lymphoma? Which is a lot easier to treat with chemo? We are now booked in for more scans and waiting for chemo information. The dr said that this the best thing we could have hoped for as far as treatment goes? My head is baffled as it’s all a lot to take in x

  • Hi  and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your husbands Lymphoma diagnosis.

I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our Lymphoma (blood cancer) groups.

I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so have been on this journey rather a long time. Yes its baffling but as you have been told - Lymphoma is very treatable with great results.

Your husbands story is not that unusual as Lymphoma is often not the first thing that is looked for but it is actually the 4-5th most common type of cancer but many people have never heard of it.

Do you actually know the exact Lymphoma type he has?...... as there are over 60 types and subtypes of Lymphoma!!!!!!

The New to Community is rather like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various cancer specific support groups but we can’t have a group for all 60 Lymphoma types but these are our main Lymphoma groups below.

    Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    Follicular Lymphoma

    Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma

    Mantel Cell Lymphoma

    T-Cell Lymphoma

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions, get support and talk with others who are supporting family and friends on their journey.

If you'd like to connect in with a group, you do need to join the group. Click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New  (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit ‘Chat’ or ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’ and you are ready to go.

You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.

I will keep an eye open for you but if you are not sure what to do and where to go do get back to me on this post and I will help you out further ((hugs))
