Hi
I`m new to al this, but I am an ex-nurse. The trouble is, having some previous knowledge is dangerous and since I got my scan results yesterday, my mind has been racing. This was compounded by the fact that the node was apparently enlarged on my last scan( over a year earlier). No one told me! It has grown from 11mm to 16mm during the ensuing time. Would that be regarded as quick growth/ aggressive form? Also, the specialist nurse reckons I will probably be sent for urgent PET scan, will that be to check what type of cancer that is, or will it be to see if there is any more elsewhere in my body? I`m very concerned because I have held off going to my Doctor for the past two years because I know they have been so busy with covid. However, I have had full blown fybromyalgia symptoms on a regular basis over the past two years.... which is what I had prior to the bowel cancer diagnosis. Could it be a secondary to that? I already had a metastasis ablated from my liver 4 years ago. Or is it more likely a secondary to a pelvic tumour somewhere?
So many questions! Not the best way to start 2022......
Hi and welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about the journey you are on. Over my 22 years on my journey I have relapsed a good number of time but so far the ‘next’ treatment has always been available - so from my experience there is always hope until there is none.
I do hope you will find lots of support and comfort here on the Online Community.
The New to Community is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various support groups and services so can have a look through this list where you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed.
If you'd like to connect in with any of our groups, you need to join the group. First click on the Green link I have created above. Then once you find a group you want to join click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’ and you are ready to go.
You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via web chat. This service provides cancer information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear.
To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section.
Talking to people face to face can indeed help a lot but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best ((hugs))
